Shia LaBeouf tried to warn everyone about NSA spying 5 years ago

June 15, 2013

We never thought we’d ever write this, but why didn’t we take Shia LaBeouf seriously? The actor tried to warn everyone that the government was recording our phone calls back in 2008. Five years ago, LaBeouf was on “The Tonight Show” and he mentioned that he’d worked with an FBI consultant to prep for his role in the techno-thriller “Eagle Eye.” “[The consultant] told me that one in five phone calls you make are recorded and logged,” LaBeouf told a visibly surprised Jay Leno. “I laughed at him, and then he played back a phone conversation I had had two years prior.” We’re sorry we doubted you, Shia. (But we’re sorry we saw “Eagle Eye,” too, so that probably evens out.)
